reason given as to why Steve wasn't involved from the start? Are there
any interviews either from the period or subsequently where Steve talks
about his limited involvement?

He doesn't like Tony Banks.

Steve's limited involvement was due to his flight from South America
arriving late. He got there in time for the encores.
